Getting to Know Our EVSC Summer Musical Alumni

Behind the scenes....the creation of the beast!

A Commitment to Supporting the Arts

Where did you go to high school?

I went to Harrison High School.

What is your favorite summer musical memory?

One of my fondest memories is the first time I stepped onto the stage at the Centre (now the Old National Events Plaza). Arriving early for our first rehearsal, I took the opportunity to explore the venue and felt an overwhelming sense of belonging to something truly special and professional. It was a surreal experience.

What advice would you give to your high school self?

Just be yourself and don't worry about what others think of you. Follow your interests and explore what excites you.

This year we are doing The Wizard of Oz. Who is your favorite character? Are you Team Glinda or Team Wicked Witch?

I have always been partial to the Cowardly Lion. He is just a fun character and I always loved impersonating his "Put em up...Put em up!!!" With this being Wizard of Oz, I have to go with Team Glinda.

What summer musical production(s) did you participate in?

I was only able to participate in the 2005 production of Beauty and the Beast.

What skills did you learn while participating in the musical that are useful in your current job?

Participating in musicals has obviously enhanced my ability to speak and present to an audience. But taking part in the summer musical, which was the largest production I had ever been involved in, significantly improved my social skills. At first, I found myself in unfamiliar territory as I knew very few members of the cast—only one other person was from Harrison. It was quite overwhelming to step into an environment where many of the others had already performed together in several shows.

This situation challenged me to actively engage and build relationships with everyone in the cast, crew, and orchestra. I figured that if I felt out of place, others probably did too, which motivated me to make a concerted effort to connect with them.

What roles did you have in those productions?

I had the great privilege of playing the Beast.
