“Now that I have graduated, I will be working at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana in the Assembly Engineering Department. I start in June and am very excited about the projects I will get to work on. ”

Career Advancement Begins with Scholarships: Seizing Opportunities
When Helaena reflects on her recent achievements and opportunities, she places great emphasis on the power of opportunity and hard work.
“Financial support was instrumental in allowing me to stay active in campus organizations and succeed in my classes. I have been active with service projects through Omega Phi Alpha (a service sorority on TTU’s campus). One notable project was winning best organization and top fundraiser at this year’s TTU Miracle Eaglethon to raise funds for the Vanderbilt Miracle Network Children’s Hospital. I served on the Omega Phi Alpha Standards Board for the 2023-24 school year and was elected to be on the Executive Board in the position of Membership Director in 2024. I also joined Tennessee Tech’s Baja SAE design and race team. We placed in the top half in all dynamic events and ranked 11th out of over 100 teams in the Business Request for Proposal event in Williamsport, PA that I was a presenter and writer for.
Thanks to the generous North High School Alumni Endowed Scholarship that I was awarded, I have now (2025) officially graduated from Tennessee Technological University with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and an Honors Minor. “
From Internship to Career: Next Steps
Helaena completed over 265 service hours giving back to the community and co-opted at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana in the Assembly Engineering Department in 2024. She recently accepted a position with Toyota and is excited to begin her career.
Scholarships can truly make all the difference for students- providing them access to opportunities to use their talents while developing new skillsets.
