EVSC Alumni in Action

Central High School Alumni of 2006
Aaron Barrett, Complex/Rehab Pitching Coordinator with the Philadelphia Phillies
A little about Aaron:

“I’m Aaron Barrett — born and raised in Evansville, Indiana. I’m a husband, a dad, and a coach who believes that purpose is found in serving others. My wife, Kendyl, and I are raising three amazing kids — Kollyns (8), Paxtyn (5), and Camdyn (1) — and they’re the heart behind everything I do.

Back Yard Dream to Major League: Aaron's Story

“Ever since I was five years old, the game of baseball has been a huge part of my life. It’s taken me from backyard dreams to the Major Leagues, and now into a role where I get to pour back into the next generation — not just as athletes, but as people.”  Aaron Barrett

Aaron’s inspiring comeback after multiple career-threatening injuries has made national headlines and cemented his place as a symbol of perseverance and grit.

His dedication to paying it forward is evident. As a former Major League Baseball pitcher and World Series Champion with the Washington Nationals, he uses his platform to mentor and support others.

Q&A: Getting to Know Our Alums

Who was your favorite teacher(s) and why?

I had a lot of great teachers, but the ones who made the biggest impact were the ones who believed in me. I can still remember filling out those elementary school forms that asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” I always wrote “Major League Baseball player,” and not one teacher ever told me that wasn’t possible.

Their belief in me gave me confidence to chase my dream, and I’ve carried that same lesson into how I coach and lead today.

What activities were you involved in?

I was involved in baseball, basketball, track, flag football, and even English-style horseback riding.

My favorite school memories are winning Field Day in 5th grade at Highland Elementary and winning Sectional and Regional championships in baseball my senior year at Central High School.

What does teamwork look like in your life and why is it important?

Teamwork, to me, is everything. It’s not just about what happens on a field — it’s how you live, lead, and love the people around you. In my life, teamwork starts at home with my wife and kids. We’re in it together, balancing the highs and lows, supporting each other, and chasing the same mission as a family. In baseball, teamwork is about trust. It’s knowing that everyone has a role, and when each person commits to doing their job with purpose, great things happen. I’ve learned that the best teams aren’t built on talent alone — they’re built on connection, communication, and belief in something bigger than yourself.

Teamwork matters because you can’t do life alone. Whether it’s my family, my coaching staff, or the players I work with, we all need each other to grow. That’s what makes it special — when people pull in the same direction, incredible things happen.

What piece of advice would you give your high school self?

“I’d tell my high school self to slow down and trust God’s plan. You don’t have to have it all figured out right now. Life’s going to throw you some tough moments — things you don’t see coming — but those are the moments that will shape who you are.
Keep working, keep believing, and don’t lose sight of your why. The highs and lows are all part of it. And when it doesn’t go the way you thought it would, remember — God’s just rerouting you toward something even better.”
