Hangers

Who We Are

Hangers is a clothing resource committed to serving EVSC students in need by providing them every-day living essentials that would otherwise be unaffordable. By providing clothing, school supplies, and hygiene products, we strive to improve the self-esteem and confidence of each student served, and in turn, ensure greater student success and fulfillment.

In 2017, Hangers and the EVSC Foundation began a partnership. Because both groups share a common mission and values, Hangers now operates with the EVSC Foundation to continue serving students.

What We Do

Hangers serves any EVSC student in need, with recommendation from a school counselor, principal, social worker, nurse, or other school staff. Once we receive a student’s service form, we set up an appointment for a visit to Hangers. EVSC-approved volunteers transport students to our facility.

Students can visit Hangers once per school year. Students are provided school-appropriate clothing, uniforms, shoes, coats, underwear, socks, and hygiene products. Since we are a non-profit and rely solely on donations, we can only provide students with materials available at their time of visit. We accept donations of new or gently-used clothing, coats, and shoes, as well as hygiene products (shampoo, soap, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, hairbrushes, etc).

Hangers does more than provide clothing for students—it helps them build self-esteem and confidence. Many students face economic challenges that can affect self-image and interfere with learning. These are burdens no young person should suffer. Hangers gives all EVSC students the ability to look and feel their best, every day.

History

The PTA Clothing Bank was created by Evansville Area Council PTA in the early 1950’s as a joint venture with the Goodwill Industries. Evansville PTA operated the clothing resource for over 60 years among various locations in the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation (EVSC). In 2014, the clothing resource changed its name to “Hangers” and moved from Washington Middle School to AIS Diamond. This move allowed 4 times the space available prior and created a department store-like atmosphere.

Location/Hours

We are located at the AIS Diamond Campus (entrance off of Wedeking Ave.) and operate 3-4 days a week, depending on time of year. Normal operating hours are Monday-Thursday, 8:00 am-12:00 pm. Hangers is closed on EVSC snow days/days off. Summer hours are limited to donation drop-off only. From May-July, Hangers is open Mondays only, 8:00 am – 12:00 pm. Please check our Facebook page or call us to verify holiday hours, as they vary.
