We partner with the Missoula Children’s Theatre, the nation’s largest touring children’s theatre, to offer a one-week theater arts residency for students in the Evansville area. Missoula’s directors have been touring extensively for more than 40 years. From Montana to Japan, Missoula Children’s Theatre visits nearly 1,200 communities yearly with over 40 teams of Tour Actor/Directors. The touring team from Missoula Children’s Theatre brings the set, lights, costumes, props, and makeupー everything needed to put on a play, except the cast!
The program is open to students entering 1st grade through 8th grade. After holding open auditions and casting around 50 students, the show is rehearsed throughout the week and two public performances are presented the following Saturday. All shows are original adaptations of classic children’s stories and fairytales… a twist on the classic stories you know and love. Along with getting involved in the production, students have an opportunity to participate in acting workshops.
The program, including workshops are completely FREE to students thanks to community sponsors! Learn more about main program components and volunteer opportunities below and stay tuned for the 2023 Children’s Theatre dates.
We will post volunteer opportunities for the next Children’s Theatre below.
Approximately 50 local students will be cast to appear in the show and up to four students will be cast as Assistant Directors. There is no guarantee that everyone who auditions will be cast in the play. Students wishing to audition must arrive by the scheduled start time and stay for the entire two-hour session. Some cast members will be asked to stay for a rehearsal immediately following the audition. This is a group audition and no advanced preparation is necessary. Students should be ready to come and have a good time!
Rehearsals and Workshops
Rehearsals will be conducted every day during the residency. Students will have an opportunity to rehearse for the show in the morning and afternoon. They will also have a chance to participate in theater arts workshops.
A detailed rehearsal and workshop schedule will be distributed at the conclusion of the audition. Not all cast members will be needed at every session. However, students selected for cast should be able to attend all rehearsals required for their role and be available for all scheduled performances.
Two performances will be held each residency. Performances are free to the public!
