Ryan Beck, VanBeck Stockers Landscaping and Lawn Care, Inc.
Ryan’s advice for today’s EVSC juniors and seniors:

“The advice I would give my high school self is to be confident, seek advice from those who have gone before you, and surround yourself with people you aspire to be like.”

Getting to Know Our EVSC Alumni

Where did you go to school and when did you graduate?

I went to Reitz High School - class of 1996.

My first career out of school was as a teacher. My wife, Jamie, has been a 6/7th grade special education teacher for 17 years at Perry Heights.

Who was your favorite teacher(s) and why?

Mr. Chamness (Reitz, Chemistry) - he made class fun and was relatable.

Mr. Vescovi (Helfrich Park, Social Studies) - I didn’t enjoy his class while I was in there, but once I was gone I had tremendous respect for him.

Mr. Deweese ( Cynthia Heights, 5th grade) - He made me want to be a teacher.

What activities were you involved in?

I played baseball and intramural basketball. I wish, looking back, I would have participated in football. I enjoyed playing at Bosse Field in High School, there is a lot of history there.

What skills did you learn in school that are useful in your current role?

The skill I learned in college was the ability to network and meet new people. I was very shy in high school. I joined a fraternity in college, and that experience really made me get out of my comfort zone.

What is your favorite school memory?

My favorite school memory was going to all the athletic events. I love seeing the “Reitz Rowdies” at the football and basketball games. I love how they are bring back school spirit.

How has community involvement impacted your life?

Being a part of the West Side Nut Club has given me the opportunity to help others and provide resources to non-profit organizations. It is truly rewarding.
