2020 Snapshot 📸

2020 has been the year of change. Amidst a global pandemic, everyone is still adjusting to change beyond their control. EVSC schools restructured buildings, students adapted, and amazing EVSC teachers led students to academic success in their classrooms!

As the EVSC Foundation, our mission is to make positive change for our school community and to invite others to do the same. Thank you for supporting teacher and student programs that serve thousands of young people every year.

Teacher Locker, a program where teachers ‘shop’ at no cost, has put $77,000 in curriculum supplies directly into EVSC classrooms in the past 15 months. What’s more, when schools closed in March, Teacher Locker donated 1,800 virtual school supply kits to students so they could continue learning at home.
Social-Emotional Support helps students of all backgrounds who experience stress. A student’s stress can range anywhere from mild (anxiety) to severe (trauma, neglect). Since COVID-19 created new stress for everyone, we equipped 700 EVSC classrooms with resources that help students cope with uncertainties, mentally recharge, and prepare for learning.
Hangers, Student Clothing Resource continues to clothe over 3,000 students annually by offering curbside pickup, delivering high-need items to schools, and accepting donations from the community. In recent months, Hangers has become a community resource for entire families in financial distress because of the pandemic.
We joined forces with community partners to help Read Evansville place 1,898 brand new books into the hands of children, helping them stay intellectually engaged during the shutdown and through summertime. With so many extracurricular activities cancelled, it was prudent to take action. Volunteers handed out books, including materials on fire safety and health, that students took home and enjoyed.
Food Delivery Programs were instituted immediately upon the swift blow of the pandemic. Not only did students lose eight weeks of in-person instruction this year, they also lost daily meals. For many students, school lunch is their heartiest (sometimes, only) meal of the day. With the help of grantors, we extended food pickup sites and delivered 383,468 breakfast and lunch meal boxes to EVSC students and their families. This effort brought our community to the doorsteps of our most vulnerable to let them know: We are here, and we care about you.
